inspiration

During the school year, I always wished I could explore FIT's library (whose collection includes probably any book I could ever find interesting) but since eating and sleeping barely even made it into my days, I didn't have the time. School does a pretty good job of overworking you while leaving little time to actually be inspired (the #1 way to getting burnt out). Unfortunately the library closes at 7PM during the summer (I usually get off work at 6PM) and is closed during the weekend. Last week, though, I was able to get a bit of exploration in. My visit was spontaneous and a bit rushed, so Photobooth was my only mode of documentation.

Issey Miyake's A-POC: a piece of cloth. Tubes of fabrics are processed and can be cut into different shapes (garments) by the wearer. Read more about in here. I eat this shit up.

Dries van Noten.

From Hussein Chalayan's Blindscape. He sketched garments from this collection blindfolded.

For his graduate show at CSM, Chalayan covered silk dresses in iron filings and buried them for weeks. I'm not even sure if this photo is of any of the dresses. You can read about his collections/concepts here.
